Collagen Facts

Collagen is lost from the skin at a rate of 1-2% per year

Women lose 30% of their skin's collagen within the first 5 years of menopause

Microneedling increases collagen production by 200-400%

This visibly improves the skin in a matter of weeks but can also be utilised in the form of 'collagen banking'

What is

'Collagen Banking'

Collagen banking is a concept that involves taking proactive steps to preserve and boost your skin collagen levels in early life with a view to maintaining a youthful appearance as you age.

By stimulating your body to produce extra collagen when it is able to efficiently do so, you can preserve skin health and delay visible signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin

What does Microneedling do?

Stimulates collagen production

(up to 400% increased production)

Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

Reduce hyperpigmentation

Improves skin elasticity

Shrinks pores

Improves acne scarring

Collagen Banking by the Decade

20s - 30s

This is the best time time to increase your collagen levels as your body is still able to produce collagen at optimal levels

40s

This focuses on rebuilding lost collagen and preventing further degradation. It is still a very effective way of maintaining and boosting collagen

50s

This focuses on rebuilding lost collagen with more of a focus on restoring the skin structure and firmness

60s

This focuses on regeneration and is best used in combination with other collagen stimulating treatment such as polynucleotides and laser

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin using a device equipped with fine, sterile needles. These tiny punctures trigger the skin’s natural wound-healing process, which involves three key stages: inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling.

Inflammation phase: The body increases blood flow to the area and releases growth factors to begin repair. This will cause your face to look red for the first 24-48 hours.

Proliferation phase. New collagen and elastin fibres are produced as fibroblast cells are activated.

Remodelling phase: The newly formed collagen strengthens and reorganises, improving skin structure and elasticity.
